Men’s Breakfast for Jan/Feb on Sat. Feb 3rd
February 3 @ 7:30 am - 8:30 am
This men’s breakfast was rescheduled from Jan 13th, and will be our February breakfast as well.
The February men’s breakfast will be on Saturday, Feb 3rd at 7:30 – 8:30am in the Fellowship Hall. The menu will be french toast casserole, sausage, fresh fruit, juice and coffee.
Our program is looking at what might seem an odd topic for a parable – manure. It is the Parable of the Barren Fig Tree (Luke 13:6-9)
Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and found none. So he said to the gardener, ‘See here! For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why should it be wasting the soil?’ He replied, ‘Sir, let it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and put manure on it. If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’”
While neither January nor February are gardening months, perhaps the theme of this parable (patience) is appropriate for this time of year.
Of note, the NT Greek word for “let it alone” is the same word – “aphemi” – that is often translated “forgive”. Jesus uses this same word later in Luke. Where?
