“So, I’m pretty good. What’s there to repent?” Sermon on Jan 7th, 2018

Pastor Kim’s initial sermon on the series on forgiveness, based in part on “Forgiven and Forgiving” by L. William Countryman. Below are her sermon notes:

When King Herod heard this, he was frightened and all Jerusalem with him;                                                    Matthew 2:3 NRSV

#1 The wise men remind us that: Jesus ______________________ and the good religious people and leaders of Jesus day  _____________!

John the baptizer appeareda in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins…..I have baptized you with[b] water; but he will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit.”            Mark 1:4-5 and 8  NRSV

In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved;[d] with you I am well pleased.”                         Mark 1: 9-11
