“Love That is Visible” sermon on Oct 7th

Sermon Notes:

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

For we live by faith, not by sight.  2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:8-10 (NLT)

What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? James 2:14 (NLT)

How does Jesus want me to express my faith?

  1. Through on of the way and out of the way good works!
  1. Through good works we reflect Jesus’ character .

Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. James 2:15-17 (NLT)

  1. Through good works that reinforce Jesus’ mission .

Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.  James 2:26 (NLT)

In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.  Matthew 5:16 (NLT)
