“A note to express our sincere gratitude to all who helped put together the two wonderful Thanksgiving meals. Thanks to Shirley Parfitt for coordinating. …Words cannot express what your congregation’s generosity means to the families who would otherwise have nothing.” – Middlebury office of Vermont’s Department of Children and Families
I am grateful for the snow blanket. It is both beautiful and practical. Our dormant plants and bushes will do better with a snow blanket to keep their “feet” protected from wind and the harshest temperatures.
Can Christmas be both beautiful and practical too? The decorations, the Christmas story, and the music bless us. The message is hugely practical. We matter deeply to a God who comes to dwell in our midst and walk beside us no matter what we face.
Thanks to the generosity of United Methodists around the world, the first ever UMC #GivingTuesday on Dec. 3 generated a record $6.5 million! The United Methodist Board of Global Ministries, which matched the first $500,000 received, reported that nearly 11,000 donors in 34 countries gave more than 16,300 gifts through The Advance to mission and ministries. The agency’s previous one-day online giving record was $492,882 set on Jan. 14, 2010, shortly after the Haiti earthquake. All of this money went 100% directly to the mission programs honored.
This is just one of the ways our church members are helping the true Christmas season and spirit to thrive. We are part of a huge number of churches and people sharing Christ’s warm transforming love. Rejoice!
