Pastor Kim’s sermon was based on Matthew 25:31-46 (sheep, goats, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty…?) She discusses how this teaching is like the preventive check-up or teeth cleaning we hardly look forward to.
And she talks about the difference between “grace” and “cheap grace” – forgiveness without transformation. She referenced Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book “The Cost of Discipleship“. Click the link if you would like to learn a bit more about this concept.
You can view Pastor Kim’s message on the video below. You will find the scripture and sermon prompt questions or phrases below that.
For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with flowing streams, with springs and underground waters welling up in valleys and hils…Take care that you do not forget the Lord your God, by failing to keep his commandments…When you have eaten your fill and have built fine houses and live in them, and when your herds and flocks have multiplied, and your silver and gold is multiplied and all that you have is multiplied, then do not exalt yourself, forgetting the Lord your God, who brought you out of slavery….fed you in the wilderness with manna…But remember the Lord your God.
Sermon Prompts and Questions
Pilgrims and People of God teach us:
Real poverty is:
Both hardship and prosperity
Hospitality and giving are basic
Thanks to Gerry Davis, we have a four minute video remembrance of our 2017 Lobsterfest complete with aerial video footage. A number of the church members and volunteers are pictured.
During Sunday worship the message was the youth and adults talking about a) what they each did; b) where they saw God; and c) what they liked the best. I videotaped MOST of the messages, but unfortunately, my iPhone ran out of memory before everyone spoke. Apologies to Megan McIntyre, Sophie and Nora Hatch, and Joe Kwiatkowski who all gave wonderful messages as well.
Written comments from some of those not on the video:
Nora Hatch: One of the things that was hard for us was our homeowner got sick and had to go to the hospital. We told the whole camp and the whole camp prayed for his healing. We were so grateful to see that he was released from the hospital the next day. We were very fond of him, his wife, and their cute dogs.
Joe Kwiatkowski: “My role at UMARMY was providing the music during worship services. Being able to see all the different groups on the program team, I saw God in the interactions between the different groups and the people they did work for. My favorite moment was meeting a client who had met my godmother because the client’s sister owned a flower shop my godmother would do deliveries for on busy holidays. “
This year’s pageant was performed by our youth under the direction of Janette Dumont and Shirley Parfitt with Joe Kwiatkowski as the piano accompanist. James and Lily Steadman played piano solos.
This video is thanks to Janette Dumont and Chris Potter, with still photo by Margaret Roddy. The rather rough editing was by Ted Marcy.
The youth who went on this year’s UM ARMY mission team to Claremont NH share what they did, what they found fun, and what was most meaningful during the week during worship on July 24th.
Enjoy the video of our excellent Christmas Pageant directed by Janette Dumont and “starring” our youth.
